I'm excited to announce that one of my favorite speakers will be coming down to Arizona for a special event hosted by Adobe, Adobe Technology User Group and Phoenix Adobe User Group. This presentation will not only show us the latest Flash and AIR technologies, but layout the road map for the future of Flash. Here are the details:

Title: An Evening with Lee Brimlow on Flash

Agenda:
Join us for an evening with Lee Brimlow from Adobe. This will be a good opportunity to speak directly with Adobe, ask questions, and discuss recent changes around the Flash Player.

In this session, Lee will lead a discussion around recent changes and announcements around the Flash Platform. He will then spend some time laying out the roadmap for the Flash Player, and discuss the direction in which the player will evolve, including the general focus of the player and the ActionScript language and AVM (ActionScript Virtual Machine). In addition, we will be showing off the latest Flash and Adobe AIR content, give some sneak peeks on upcoming releases, and setting aside plenty of time for open discussions and Q&A.

Well also reveal the latest technologies being worked on by Adobe for game developers and will show how these technologies allow developers to create casual 2D games in addition to AAA 3D games. Current best practices will also be discussed.

Speaker:
Lee Brimelow is a developer evangelist at Adobe who is currently focusing on Flash gaming. He has worked in the past for companies like AOL, Netscape, frog design, and eBay. Lee runs the highly popular video tutorial site at gotoandlearn.com and writes a blog dedicated to Flash at theflashblog.com.

Anthony Bueno's Blog The Death of IE6 - Jan 5
Almost a year ago, Microsoft announced that it will no longer support Internet Explorer 6. Most people thought that this would be the end of the dreaded browser, but by some miracle, it survived and thrived. Recently however, with IE6's market share dipping below 1% (according to Netmarketshare.com), it looks like IE6 has finally reached its demise.

Does this mean that we can build our sites without worrying about IE hacks and weird rendering anomalies? Not necessarily...

I hate to break it to you but IE7 and IE8 are still out in the wild. Though these browsers are better than its predecessor, they still lack the standards that most current browsers support. One of the major issues web developers face is that some users are still reluctant to upgrade their Windows OS to Vista or 7. So the real issue here is not really the browser version but the OS version being utilized.

Windows XP is a very old OS and will never support the newer IE browsers after 8, which means most users are stuck. With a little less than 50 percent of users still on XP, it is going to take a while before we can rid ourselves of all the headaches of web development.

So, if you are reading this on your Window XP IE8, please for the love of Grayskull, update your OS.or at least switch to Firefox or Chrome.

Anthony Bueno's Blog Adobe Cloud Creative Service and Tablet Tools - 10/26/11

Adobe Max 2011 has come to a close, and for the most part, it was good. Most of the new products
and enhancements were geared towards mobile and tablet applications development. This was the
apparent overall theme, not only for the general session and Keynote, but also within the Community
Pavillion. It looks like the way we will be communicating our products and services is evolving once
again.

Let us take a look at some of the features and products that were unveiled.

WIN for the Designers
Adobe has placed a lot of emphasis on the development side of its tools and products, but Monday was for the designers. One of the major announcements uncovered on the first day was the Adobe Creative Cloud. While the concept was cool, it was a bit of a late-comer in the information and computing service arena, since a lot of online services like that already exist. On the other hand, being able to take your ideas off a tablet and bringing it right onto your desktop applications is awesome. Here are a few of the products and services.

Adobe Cloud Services
Dropbox on steroids. One of the hardest things about collaborating with others is sharing files. With Adobe Cloud, you can upload your work and share it with the world. You can also get a visual of the
file and add some metadata to help organize your thoughts on the cloud. Like I said, great idea if they released it two years ago. Oh well.

Adobe Collage
I saw a glimpse of this a while back and now it is finally out in the wild. The concept of the Adobe Collage is to allow images, Kuler colors and ideas to be placed in a collage style format to start the
idea process sort of like a vision board or storyboard. There are a couple of tools available in Adobe Collage. However, they are not meant to create final products, just rough drafts.

Adobe Debut
Adobe Debut helps the creative team refine their artworks and materials prior to presentations. It allows for easy collaboration between the marketing team and the creative team without each one encroaching on the others domain.

Adobe Ideas
Draw on the go. For those of you who are vector artists, drawing on the traditional computer terminal format is difficult...though I know a few who have mastered the art. Adobe Ideas gets us closer to that organic paper and pen type interaction. There are a couple of apps like this out in the market, but this will tap into Adobe's Cloud services so you can bring in your drawings into more powerful desktop applications.

Adobe Proto
This might be my favorite. Prototyping a web layout can be a little cumbersome to our clients when trying to visualize a site drawn on paper. With Adobe Proto, you can use your tablet device to quickly mock up a site layout that actually looks like a site...whodathunk?! With a swipe of your finger you can easily add divs, video containers, placeholder text and more. I would definitely use this if I had a tablet. Ok, maybe.
